The Train departes from Dunedin Railway Station (you will need to make your way to Dunedin Station from your cruise ship). For infomation on transfers please email us info@pounamutourismgroup.com. 


No. Cruise passengers can utilise the Cruise ship shuttle services to and from Dunedin port. In Dunedin, the drop off/pick up point is “The Octagon”, which is a 500-meter, gentle stroll, to the Dunedin Railway Station (approximate 7 min walk).

If you have purhcased through your Cruise Ship Shore Excursion desk, the Transfer to the Train are included.  For tickets purchased with the Train directly, local tour operator, Exploring New Zealand, can provide transportation from the Cruise ship to Dunedin Railway Station along with a brief city tour. Passengers are required to board the Train, unaided. Carriages are 1940’s vintage and not the same height as ground level, therefore for safety reasons, passengers must be able to climb 3 vertical steps, unaided. Lightweight foldable walking aides can be transported in the luggage hold of the van during the service.



Yes. All carriages are heated or air conditioned to suit the outside weather conditions.

Yes, there are toilets on board.

If your port call is cancelled due to medical or weather, then you will be fully refunded your ticket fare.

Yes, there is a licenced buffet carriage where snack and drinks are available for purchase. 

Wi-Fi is 'not' currently available on board the Train.
